Our Story

How we started

Moksha is a Belgium-based startup turning used coffee grounds into everyday essentials starting with our signature coffee-based pens.
What began as a simple school project soon grew into a purpose-driven mission: proving that waste can be transformed into something beautiful, useful, and meaningful.

Our story is one of curiosity, failure, persistence, and eventually, rebirth, just like the coffee we work with.

Here’s how it all started.

October 2024

Our Beginning

Moksha started at VIVES University during a Creative Business Project. Seven students were challenged to create a sustainable product and they turned discarded coffee grounds into something purposeful.

First Prototypes

The team experimented relentlessly, mixing, molding, failing, trying again. The first prototypes were far from perfect, but they proved one thing: transforming coffee waste into a durable writing tool was possible.

Our First Sales Moment

During a school sales event at VIVES, Moksha introduced its early pens to students and staff. The response was overwhelmingly positive. People loved the coffee scent, the story, and the idea. This was the moment the team realized: Moksha could be more than a school project.

UNIZO Step Up 2025 Winner

Moksha received recognition at the UNIZO Step Up competition held at the Flemish Parliament in Brussels, winning the coveted award for innovation and sustainability. This milestone validated the concept and encouraged two from the original group to take Moksha beyond the classroom, dedicating months to refining materials, design, and production.

The rebirth

After months of development, Moksha was officially reborn as a real startup. Founded by Veronika and Kirsten and later joined by a third team member, Boris. Moksha stepped into the world as a young, eco-conscious brand ready to grow.
